Maui Named Top Hawaiian Island
While it is no surprise to us Maui lovers, for the seventh year in a row Maui has been dubbed as the top Hawaii island by Travel + Leisure. This designation is earned by T+L readers. While all of the Hawaiian islands are wonderful, T+L readers picked Maui above the rest due to its beautiful weather, miles of extraordinary beaches and breathtaking sights.
One of the highlights of the article was the golden beaches of Wailea. The Wailea beaches are incredible. You should definitely explore the island on your first trip. However, on subsequent visits staying around South Maui is truly a vacation in of itself.
Explore Maui
Maui has some very beautiful areas to visit. Our favorite is the South Side and the towns of Kihei, Wailea, and Makena. Though it is hard to believe, this area actually has warmer and dryer weather than most of the whole island. Our Maui Weather Page is a great resource for full-island weather. Low-density 5-star hotels, great golf, and wonderful beaches throughout this area.
Of course, the West Side of Maui (Lahaina, Kapalua, and Ka’anapali) are also very popular travel destinations as well. Here you’ll find many of the high-rise hotels on Maui and some less expensive rental options. Also, a plus for the area is that many of the boat activities launch from Lahaina Harbor (Maʻalaea Harbor in Central Maui is another launching area).
No trip to Maui is complete without a drive to Hana and the unbelievable views from the world-famous “Road to Hana”. Plan all day for this trip, and when you return you’ll know what the shirts all say, “I survived the Road to Hana.”
Not only was Maui named the top Hawaiian island, but it was also named the #6 island on the earth.
On your first visit to Maui you’ll quickly see why the Island has the saying, “Maui No Ka Oi” or Maui, is the best.
