Lucky you that you are ringing in the new year on our favorite island, Maui. While you don’t even need something special to do on Maui for New Year’s Eve to have the ultimate night, here are some events and ideas if you are looking for a really big bang to bring in the new year.
Firework Cruise
New Year’s Eve firework cruises are very popular and as you can imagine, very fun. Pride of Maui offers their only cruise of the year on NYE. The Pacific Whale Foundation has a number of cruises available, as well.
New Year’s Luau
Drums of the Pacific is offering two New Year’s Eve holiday special luaus. The first show is from 5-8 pm. The second show extravaganza begins at 9 pm and ends at midnight. This show includes all of the party accessories, sparkling wine and an upgraded buffet.
Romantic New Year’s Dinner
There is not a shortage of restaurants to make your NYE reservation. Depending on where you are on island, ask your concierge for the best options. Most places have specials for New Year’s. Be sure to check out our list of favorites.
Wailea Beach Resort – Marriott New Year’s Eve Party
This event is a fundraiser for the Maui Food Bank and the Maui Arts and Cultural Center and tickets are limited. If you want to be where the entertainment is, this is THE NYE event. Steven Tyler, Alice Cooper, Michael McDonald, Pat Simmons, Dave Mason, Weird Al Yankovic, Lynda Carter, Willie K, Bob Rock, Lily Meola, Ray Benson of Asleep at the Wheel and David Draiman of Disturbed are just some of the biggest names to perform at this event beginning with cocktails at 7:30 pm. Midnight fireworks with private rooftop viewing and a full bar round out the night. Tickets are $675 per person. Email for tickets or more information.
Do it Yourself Fireworks and Beach Party
If you are wanting to “hit the town” for the big New Year’s Eve parties, or just want a low-key night with friends and family, then how about a little “DIY NYE”. Did you know fireworks are legal on Maui for New Years? Yes! You need a permit if you want to launch anything over 12-feet hight (the permit is only $25) and they can be bought at any Maui County office – here is a good resource.
Where to Buy Fireworks On Maui
You can go to any Foodland or CVS / Longs. Additionally there are a few “pop up” shops in Kihei as well: Pacific Starr Fireworks next to Safeway in the Piilani Village Shopping Center and TNT Fireworks Golden Dragon also in Piilani Village Shopping Center.
