Volunteering on Maui

Posted on: June 24, 2022

Maui is home to gorgeous green landscapes that give way to undulating hills and warm sandy beaches. The natural beauty that the island provides can only truly be appreciated in person. Although you may think we are biased, it seems all too easy to call Maui one of the most beautiful places on Earth. However, keeping Maui as pristine as possible takes a lot of work.

Whether you’ve decided to participate in ecotourism or just looking for a way to give back, there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer. Find something your passionate about, kids, the shore, the warm waters, and dive in! If you’re looking for volunteer opportunities on Maui, here are some of our favorite ways to give back.

A`ohe lokomaika`i i nele i ke pâna`i – No kind deed has ever lacked its reward.

Beach Clean Up

One of the easiest things you can do to give back while enjoying Maui is by simply cleaning up the beach. This can be as easy as bringing a bag along with you on your beach day and casually pick up litter as you go. Or you could join a more formal cleanup effort with a local organization. The Maui Ocean Center is a great resource for those looking into helping create a healthier ocean.

Feed My Sheep

Food insecurity is a real problem across the US but even more so in Hawaii. Join the good people at Feed My Sheep as they work to feed the hungry in body, mind and spirit. They travel to different neighborhoods each week and hand out bags of groceries as well as emotional support to those in need.

Leilani Farm Sanctuary

If you want to get up close and personal with animals while helping children in need, Leilani Farm Sanctuary is a great experience. Spend your day with orphaned or neglected farm animals, gardening, repairing fences and cleaning up the farm all while contributing to programs for children from troubled homes.

Coral Reef Restoration

After a little bit of training, you can become a REEF volunteer and play a pivotal role in marine conservation. While you enjoy snorkeling or diving around Maui, you can collect data that will help various agencies protect local fish populations.

Hands on Maui

If you’re looking for even more opportunities to volunteer on Maui, Hands on Maui is a great place to start. Whether it’s an ongoing event or something set for a specific day, there are plenty of ways to give back all while enjoying paradise.
